Litigation and Conflict Resolution
ZELA seeks to use its experience and expertise in environmental law issues
to ensure that environmental conflicts are effectively dealt with. The
organization does not encourage litigation in the process of solving these
conflicts but rather places emphasis on alternative dispute resolution
mechanisms which are less costly in terms of time and money. Alternative
dispute resolution also helps in creating good will between the parties
and reduces confrontation. However, if the use of these mechanisms fails,
ZELA will take the issues to court for determination, especially on behalf
of disadvantaged communities.
